Osaka, Kansai, Japan, 9 April 2025 – Expo 2025, held under the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," offers a prime platform for Indonesia to demonstrate the fusion of its natural wealth, cultural heritage, and technological innovations. The Indonesia Pavilion, under the theme "Thriving in Harmony – Nature, Culture, Future," draws inspiration from the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, emphasizing the harmonious relationship between humanity, nature, and the divine. This philosophy guides Indonesia’s commitment to sustainability through a holistic approach, encouraging responsible actions for individuals, communities, and the planet.

Rachmat Pambudy, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, highlights, “Indonesia’s eighth participation in the World Expo, returning to Osaka after its debut in 1970, underscores its dedication to global collaboration and innovation. Our presence signifies our vision of showcasing Indonesia’s cultural richness, economic resilience, and sustainable development, fostering global partnerships for a brighter future.”

From April 13 to October 13, 2025, the Pavilion invites visitors to explore Indonesia’s vibrant heritage and forward-thinking innovations. It stands not just as a cultural exhibit but as a testament to Indonesia's role as a global hub of exchange, innovation, and investment. With a dynamic population, abundant natural resources, and a strong commitment to green and inclusive development, Indonesia opens its doors to meaningful collaborations and opportunities for growth.

A Journey Through Time and Space The Pavilion’s design, inspired by Indonesia’s maritime legacy, symbolizes the archipelago’s seafaring history and its journey toward a sustainable future. Inside, visitors will experience a multisensory blend of tradition and technology, showcasing Indonesia’s aspirations for its centennial independence. The immersive storytelling experience takes guests on a journey from Earth’s depths to a panoramic vision of Indonesia’s future in 2045—a vision of a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable nation.

Widiyanti Putri, Minister of Tourism, states, “This global stage allows us to present Indonesia as a world-class destination for specialized travel, where ancient wisdom meets modern luxury. Our unwavering commitment is to foster tourism that uplifts communities, preserves our natural heritage, and nurtures a sustainable green economy.”

Fostering Economic Growth and Global Partnerships Expo 2025 is a key platform for Indonesia to enhance foreign direct investment (FDI), showcase its commitment to sustainable development, and strengthen international partnerships. With over 28 million visitors expected, including participation from 158 countries, Indonesia aims to leverage this event to support its long-term growth strategy as outlined in the 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN).

"Indonesia's participation in Expo 2025 marks the beginning of a new era of global cooperation. We aim to offer investment opportunities that are profitable yet beneficial for society and the environment,” says Leonardo Sambodo, Deputy for Food Affairs, Natural Resources, and Environment.

Building on the success of Expo 2020 Dubai, where Indonesia’s Pavilion attracted 2.5 million visitors and secured US$2 billion in business transactions, Indonesia aims to attract 2.8 to 3.5 million visitors in Osaka.

Unlocking Investment Opportunities in Indonesia As outlined in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), Indonesia targets a GDP growth rate of 8%. Achieving this goal will require substantial investments, particularly in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, food resilience, and infrastructure. With the Expo providing a unique opportunity to engage decision-makers, Indonesia is ready to present its key projects to the global stage.

A dedicated business center, VIP lounge, and private meeting rooms will facilitate discussions and strategic collaborations. Over 40 business forums will be held, focusing on:

Human Capital Development: Indonesia–Japan workforce collaboration, technological innovation via blockchain, and healthcare initiatives.

Economic Value-Add: Renewable energy, food security, and strengthening domestic supply chains.

Strategic Infrastructure: Power plants, industrial parks, and waste management.

Green Economy: B100 biofuels, carbon trading, and waste management.

Tourism & Creative Industries: Eco-friendly fashion, wellness tourism, and traditional healing practices.

“We are using Expo 2025 to promote Indonesia as a key player in global tourism and investment, setting the stage for the future of mindful and sustainable travel,” says Minister Widiyanti Putri.

Art, Design, and Craft: Celebrating Indonesia’s Creativity A key feature of the Pavilion is the work of renowned contemporary Indonesian artists, who reinterpret endangered species such as the Sumatran Tiger and Komodo Dragon through unique art forms. Visitors can interact with these art pieces and explore their connection to both the environment and cultural heritage.

Indonesia’s deep connection to nature is also showcased through live demonstrations of traditional crafts and performances, including Indonesian herbal medicine making, martial arts, and dance. The Pavilion emphasizes that these traditions are not relics of the past but living practices, evolving in today’s Indonesia.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Heart of Expo 2025 The Pavilion is designed with sustainability in mind, using eco-friendly materials like Plana wood, which is made from rice husks, recycled plastic, and additives. It also incorporates renewable energy sources and energy-efficient systems, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint.

Tumtum: The Friendly Face of Indonesia The official mascot of the Pavilion, Tumtum, embodies Indonesia’s values—nature, culture, and future. Inspired by the Batik Truntum motif, Tumtum’s three characters represent Indonesia’s harmony with its environment, diverse people, and aspirations for a sustainable future.

Culinary and Cultural Delights Visitors can also enjoy Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage, with menus featuring renowned coffees like Mandheling and Toraja. The retail area will showcase handcrafted goods, from traditional textiles to modern reinterpretations of Indonesian designs.

Expo 2025 presents an unmissable opportunity to experience Indonesia’s commitment to sustainability, cultural richness, and forward-thinking innovation, while building meaningful connections for a brighter global future.
