In a strong reaffirmation of support for the Palestinian cause, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Gaza belongs to the Palestinians, just as much as the West Bank and East Jerusalem do.
Speaking during a high-level address in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that Gaza, despite the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis, remains an inseparable part of Palestinian territory.
"Gaza is the land of the Palestinians, just like the West Bank, just like East Jerusalem," Erdoğan said. "No occupation, no oppression can change this truth."
The Turkish leader criticized Israel’s military operations in Gaza and called on the international community to take concrete steps to end what he described as "systematic injustice and violations of international law."
Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to a two-state solution based on 1967 borders and recognized East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. He also demanded greater pressure on Israel to halt its military activities in Gaza, citing the humanitarian toll on civilians.
International Response
Erdoğan’s remarks were quickly echoed by several countries sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, while Israeli officials condemned the statement, claiming it was "biased and unhelpful" to peace efforts.
Tensions remain high as conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with widespread calls for ceasefire negotiations intensifying globally.
Turkey, under Erdoğan's leadership, has consistently positioned itself as a major advocate for Palestinian rights in international forums, including the United Nations.
Erdogan underlined that nothing can be achieved in Gaza through Israel’s current course of bloodshed and cutting off food and medical aid. / AA
