IndosNews — The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), launched in 2021 by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has announced that the 2024 edition of the SGI Forum will take place on December 3–4 under the theme “Action is in our nature.”
The forum will coincide with the sixteenth session of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Conference of the Parties (COP16), taking place in Riyadh from December 2–13. COP16 Riyadh will be the largest UNCCD conference ever and the largest multilateral conference ever hosted by Saudi Arabia.
Hundreds of policymakers, business leaders, and global experts will gather at the SGI Pavilion in the COP16 UNCCD Green Zone. Dozens of discussion sessions will highlight best practices, innovations, and SGI achievements, with the goal of strengthening collaboration toward a greener future.
Since SGI’s launch, significant positive progress has been made: over 4 GW of renewable energy capacity installed, more than 95 million trees and shrubs planted, and 1,660+ endangered animals rewilded across the Kingdom.
During COP16, the 4,000 m² SGI Pavilion will be open to the public, offering an interactive journey through the SGI Gallery, multimedia exhibitions, and daily SGI Talks with experts. SGI reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to reaching net zero emissions by 2060 and improving quality of life while tackling environmental challenges such as high temperatures, low rainfall, dust storms, and desertification.
